FIELD TRIPS
Field Trip #1 Athens Beer Trail
Wednesday starting at 5 pm (NOTE this is different than the other field trips)--Enjoy the famed Athens night life with us at three of our local breweries: Creature Comforts Downtown Taproom and Brewery, Athentic Brewing Company, and Normaltown Brewing Co. We will be providing a pre-paid drink ticket for one flight at each brewery to allow you to sample four drinks on tap at each brewery. Begin the beer trail by walking on your own, or transportation will also be provided to and between each brewery via regular trolley stops by our local On/Off Trolley Brew Hop Shuttle. Tours will start at 5pm at the Classic Center and terminate at 10pm at the Classic Center. A boxed lunch will be provided at the beginning of the tour. Participants must be 21-yrs old or over. Registration is required and it includes boxed lunch, 4 beer flights and transport. Field Trip #2 Hiking in Amicalola Falls
Wednesday starting at noon--Come join us in visiting the trailhead of the Appalachian Trail (AT) at Amicalola Falls State Park. This state park boasts scenic outlooks, various hiking trails, an onsite restaurant, and adventure park. We will be offering a day trip to the Falls via bus. It will take approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes to arrive at the state park. A boxed lunch will be provided. You will arrive at the park at approximately 3pm EST. We will begin the drive back to Athens at sundown (~8:30 pm EST), and arrive at back the conference center at ~10PM EST. Registration is required and includes transport and State Park entrance fees.

Field Trip #3 Kayaking the Broad River
Wednesday starting at noon--Come cool off on a kayak on the lower portion of the Broad River (Class I and II), a 6.5 mile (~10.5 km) section of the river that offers small rapids for all level of paddlers. The section can take between 3 to 5 hours to complete depending on water levels. You can commonly see wildlife such as Great Blue Herons, kingfishers, kites, Green herons, osprey, Bald eagles, various native aquatic turtles, and less frequently beaver and otter. Participants will be transported to and from Broad River Outpost, approximately 30 minutes from the Classic Center. A box lunch will be offered at the beginning of the trip. A sit-on-top kayak, life jacket, and paddle will be provided at the Outpost. A single kayak is highly recommended for this trip. A bathing suit, hiking sandals, sunscreen, water, a waterproof bag for phone, a towel and insect repellent are recommended. No large coolers or glass containers are allowed on the river.
